Microneedling with PRP is a research-proven solution for hair health, hair thinning and hair loss. There are an increasing number of recent studies that support this research about hair loss along with new findings for hair health and growth.
The current top three treatments for hair health are topical solutions like Minoxidil and Finasteride, and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP Therapy) with microneedling.
Let’s comb through the hair growth data and learn how these treatments work
- Microneedling stimulates stem cells and induces activation of growth factors.
- Topical Minoxidil causes vasodilation which oxygenates and provides nutrients to the actual hair follicles, leading to healthier and a longer hair growth cycle.
- Finasteride blocks the male hormone production of DHT. This hormone is known to stop hair growth. Taken orally there can be negative side effects. A new formulation is now available for topical use, however. There is no data on hair follicle regeneration with DHT blocking.
- PRP promotes hair follicle regeneration.
- Highly concentrated PRP contains additional growth factors which encourage:
- Faster hair growth
- Thicker, healthier strands
- Increased circulation to scalp
A recent study suggests the most effective treatment is microneedling with the combination of both PRP and Minoxidil. The data suggests that PRP and Minoxidil potentiate each other’s action, creating a synergistic effect on the hair follicle density and hair shaft diameter.
There are cases where hair regrowth is not possible. Overall health, medications and some chronic diseases can inhibit the growing process. Simple lifestyle questions and lab work will show whether microneedling is right for you.
