It’s inevitable — our skin changes as we age. We lose collagen, elastin, structural fat, and then, of course, gravity wins. Facial aging actually begins in your 20s, when skin firmness and volume loss occurs as a result of our genetics, various habits (sun exposure, smoking, stress, etc), and the use, or lack of, preventative methods (regular exfoliation, neuromodulators, microneedling, etc).
Most of the products we use consist of hyaluronic acid (HA). This is a naturally occurring compound found in our skin, soft tissue, and joints. And when prepared in a syringe, this gel-like substance is injected to soften wrinkles and add volume for softer, smoother skin. We can strategically place this ‘filler’ to enhance your beauty and give you a vibrant glow.
When we inject PRP, we promote the production of collagen and elastin under the skin. PRP alone will not add noticeable volume, but hyaluronic acid will. So when we mix the two, we get the immediate benefits with HA volumization and then long-term soft-tissue regeneration with PRP.
Where can we use volumization?
Some of the most common injection sites include :
- Lips – to add fullness, reduce vertical lines, and/or correct asymmetry
- Cheeks – by adding volume to areas around the cheekbones, we can ‘lift’ the sagging skin of our jowls and reduce hollowness under the eyes —–*This is one of Dr. Young’s favorite approaches, just FYI*
- Chin and jawline – to optimize shape and volume of the lower face
- Around the mouth – marionette lines, nasolabial folds. These static lines, or wrinkles that are visible when our face is at rest, may need to be filled with a soft HA product to create a more smooth appearance.
What you can expect:
There is very little downtime after these procedures. You may notice some swelling or bruising for a few days. And we have various tricks to help prevent these unwanted side effects. These injections are temporary and can be dissolved if necessary. Most folks notice benefits lasting between 6 – 12 months.
